How to: Change the IRQ (interrupt-request) line for a plug-and-play device.
Solution:
In 'Control Panel' window, double-click the 'System' icon and click the 'Device Manager' tab. Double-click the desired device and click the 'Resource' tab. Change the interrupt request and click 'OK' twice.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)

3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'Device Manager' tab. (The 'Device Manager' tabbed page appears.)
5) Select the 'Computer' icon.
6) Click 'Properties'. (The 'Computer Properties' dialog box appears.)
7) Select the 'Interrupt request (IRQ)' radio button. (The interrupt assignments and hardware device names appear.)

8) See which interrupt settings are not assigned, by noting which numbers are missing from the list of settings.
9) Click 'OK' to close the 'Computer Properties' dialog box.
10) Select the 'View devices by type' radio button.
11) Double-click the type of device to expand the list of components.
EXAMPLE: Double-click 'Sound, video and game controllers' to view the list of multimedia devices on the computer.
NOTE: For drive devices (such as floppy drives, hard drives, and CD-ROM drives), the IRQ value is assigned to the driver controller and not to the drive itself. To locate the proper controller for a drive, select the 'View devices by connection' radio button, and browse the controllers listed until the you find the specific drive.
12) Double-click on the desired device. (The '<device> Properties' dialog box appears, where <device> is the name of the selected device.)
13) Click the 'Resources' tab. (The 'Resources' tabbed page appears.)
14) Select 'Interrupt Request' from the 'Resource settings' list box.
15) Clear the 'Use Automatic Settings' check box.
16) Click 'Change Setting...'. (The 'Edit Interrupt Request' dialog box appears.)

NOTE: If the 'No Modifications Allowed' dialog box appears, the interrupt cannot be changed. Click 'OK' and proceed to step 21).
17) Use the arrow buttons on the right of the list box to display the desired interrupt.
18) Click 'OK' to select a new interrupt and close the 'Edit Interrupt Request' dialog box. (The '<device> Properties' dialog box appears, where <device> is the name of the selected device.)
19) Click 'OK'. (A confirmation dialog box appears.)
20) Click 'Yes'. (The system changes the interrupt.)
21) Click 'OK' to close the '<device> Properties' dialog box (where <device> is the name of the selected device).
22) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to close the 'Control Panel' window.
